Clip to ScrapBook #1

One of my former students posted a graph on Facebook this morning. It's a graph of an exponential curve, juxtaposed on a graph of New Hampshire COVID cases since March 4. He created it himself, and cited his data source. The graph shows that our curve is starting to flatten. (Yay!)

Another former student (who was/is special needs) posted a comment that the graph shows that things are improving.

A third former student clarified that things aren't getting bad as fast as they were.

Yet another former student pointed out that the flattening trend had only been for three days and could be a blip in the data...

Who would have thought? After all the whining about "when will I ever use this stuff in real life?"

Yes, my friends, my students know how to mathematically model an exponential curve, access data from a reliable source, cite their sources, create a graph with a title and labeled axes, and discuss and evaluate the results based on the graph.

I am THAT good!

So, what grade did you give them????

I hope you are able to print out the posts from Facebook, frame them and hang the collage in a place of honor. What a wonderful story! Absolutely something to be proud of!

I had some of these “kids” in high school chemistry, and others in ninth grade physical science.

They are in their 30s now.

I have some former students from 20 years ago as facebook friends. watching them grow their young families and interact with other former students, its pretty heartwarming. the whole circle of life thing, and i got to be a small part of it.
