I think it is the phrase that bothers me the most- even more than students addressing me as "bruh" when they get corrected by little ol' me, Mrs. Pixiedust.

I feel like I'm constantly like "wait...what" when I'm sitting in PD meetings.

Students know I'm not a fan of "Wait, what?" at all. In an honors class, I had a male student with a very deep voice. He was famous for jokingly saying that right in the middle of a lesson. Made us all laugh every time.

I think that phrase quite frequently! I also say it with friends sometimes when something really shocking happens. I don't use it in meetings or anything (but I do think it)

I am sick of hearing the non-racist n word.

The phrase and I am sick of hearing is the N word, with an a for the e and no r. It seems like every other word coming out of students mouths, and it doesn't matter what race they are, this is not a racial term at all, they used the term as friend. Anybody who subs or teaches or who is under 30 years old probably heard or heard it often. Heck, white kids use it when addressing each other, and to blacks all the time. Even though this word has a totally different meaning, it kind of hits way too close for comfort imo. Do they use this where you all are? I am in the South, but not the Bible Belt, more like San Antonio area. Totally different make-up ethically wise.

I think it all the time as well. I guess I should clarify. I hate when I'm in the middle of giving very basic directions "Put your name on your paper" and a smart aleck student blurts out "Wait....WHAT?" That is when it bothers me!

OMG, no!! I wouldn't even consider that variation of the word "non racist." The black kids do use it to refer to each other as friends, but no other races would use the word. There would be serious consequences if they did! And we try often to get the black kids to understand why they should not use the word in a public place like school. There are some heavy conversations, but the kids just don't understand. They hear it in music and all their friends use it, so they think it's okay.

I haven't gotten the "wait...what" before.

One of my kindergartners called me "bruh" today. I said, "did you just call me bruh?" He froze for a second then I started laughing and he cracked up. It just slipped out when he was talking about a book we were reading.

In first grade here's the worst for this year:

"That's not fair!"

"But you never said that!"

"But he/she was doing it too!"

"But he/she did ____ to me first!"

"I don't have it because my mom forgot to pack it."

"But I'm not arguing!" (, my response is..."You are arguing right now about arguing!")

"That's so random!"

Nine times out of ten whatever the kid is referring to is the opposite of random!

I have never had a kid say that to me. Maybe it is regional and I am not in the region.
