The post on the Vent board got me wondering... what online PDs/tests does your school require you to do?

We have bloodborne pathogens in the middle of the year, and suicide prevention and child abuse videos at the beginning of the year. (We already received access to these two videos.)

Bloodborne Pathogens

Just the Bloodborne Pathogens one. My old district used Safeschools or whatever it's called (the same service posted on the vent board). The state education department has a bloodborne pathogen online, through their site, and that's the one we use at my school now.

Nothing is online. A person comes to lecture everyone in the auditorium for the entire day before students arrive.

The last two are every other year. They must be completed by Oct of that school year.

Affirmative Action-NJ
Asthma
Bloodborne Pathogens
Child Abuse-NJ
FERPA
Sexual Harassment
Reading Disability/Dyslexia-NJ (2 Hour)
Suicide Prevention (2 Hour)

If you are new to the district, they have a Google Classroom set up with trainings that need to be completed by the end of the year. In addition, there are trainings on things like PowerSchool/PowerTeacher (online gradebook), and Oncourse (Online Lesson Plans).

And if you have any additional health issues, you have to do some of these.

  • Children’s Internet Protection Act
  • FERPA
  • Youth Suicide
  • Asthma
  • Diabetes
  • Seizures
  • Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Restraint & Seclusion
  • Active Shooter Training

We have to watch videos, take a quiz, and print a certificate.

These do not count as any of our PD hours, though. Our 24 hours of PD credit are separate.

I don't remember the names, but we have about 10 that we have to do throughout the year. As I posted in the other thread, I never watch them and just take the test.

All of our medical stuff is handled during an after school staff meeting. It's the EXACT same thing every single year. Every single year, the nurse plans cutesy activities that we all hate for the beginning, and then towards the end realizes she's running out of time and rushes through most of it (it's 90 minutes). We all say every year that this information should just be in the videos like everything else, and we're told that's not allowed.

Another reason I am glad to be retired. We had about a dozen. Lots of health stuff like blood born pathogens, allergies, asthma, epipens, abuse and neglect, sexual harassment, on and on.

Some of them duplicate parts of others. Parts of some of ours were designed for school board members.

And then some would end with vague statements about how local procedures may vary, but of course they didn't tell us the local procedures.

Somebody is getting rich, a lot of teachers are getting bored, and the districts can prove they required training, in case of a lawsuit. CYA.

I'm a sub, so my list is short. One district requires nothing, and the other a ridiculous "public employee" one every other year. (It's all about conflict of interest and not accepting gifts. - I promise you, nobody is bribing the subs!)

I'm glad we're not required to do a ton of stuff, but I actually kind of wish we were invited to the the medical safety ones. - I only know bloodborne pathogens because two family members are nurses, and Epi-pens because of a neighbor child's allergies.

Kahluablast, you win! I thought it was bad that I had 6 to watch. They totaled 2 1/2 hours. Topics included bullying, child abuse, and interent/email/security issues.

I’m with Haley 😂 I try to skip to the test. We’ve done child abuse, I had to do CPR to renew my license, sexual harassment. Last year they made us do some cultural awareness training- that one was a ton of modules. There was also some accessibility and accommodation training this year.

I'm in the same district as kahlua. The only good thing about having 348748476464 trainings is we can skip the videos and just take the quiz. Took me about 15 minutes this morning.

have any videos to watch.

Blood Born Pathogens: read a booklet
Epi Pen: Nurse gives a presentation

We are simply stuck with anything else they decide to add during the week before school starts. None of it counts as PD.

Ugh!!! We have 18 videos/tests to complete! Yes 18!! Most are 12-28 min long followed by 5 questions. Except hazardous waste, it was 44 min long. And completely a waste of time. We never handle hazardous waste, nor dispose of it. We will call someone. But in 19 years of teaching at multiple schools in multiple states I've never seen anyone encounter hazardous waste. You cannot skip through the videos. The first year we were able to log onto several computers at once to finish them faster. But now you can only be logged into one at a time. Thankfully we have all saved our answers from the first time because the questions don't change.

Waste of time!!

And you can't skip through them. It records the time.

And it's not PD hours. It's a requirement.
