I just found out that Newsela is subscription now, except for current events. I had great text sets built, especially for cultures. I guess I'll find out how much $$ it is. (Rats.)

That ticks me off, but Iím not surprised.

I know everyone says these sites need to make money somehow but Iím tired of it being on the backs of teachers.

It is ridiculously expensive. Shockingly, ridiculously expensive. I requested the quote since I use it so much that I felt like it would be worth it as long as it wasn't too much. Well the quote I was given (which I should have known the minute you need to request a quote rather than them just publishing their prices like other sites that it was going to be too high) was 750-1000 per year for an individual teacher license. They sale rep suggested that I get my school to do a school wide partner ship since it has substantial discounts for multi-license sites.

Yeah right, I had to get the PTA to sponsor me for 100 dollars for a year of Generation Genius-and we dont even have a science curriculum.

Based on your posts, I went and looked at Newsela (hadn't looked in a while). There's still a free account, according to their website. Does that mean they put a bunch of free stuff under the paid service? I saw a chart that said tracking grades and such fell under the Pro (paid) service... ???

I priced it last year and was appalled by the price. Is it more restrictive than it previously was?

If I read it correctly, "current event" articles are still free.
