Blogspot Background Help

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I decided to create a blog after seeing so many fabulous blogs posted on pro teacher. I have found some neat free background templates and figured out how to insert them however it keeps a template from the blogspot website as well so they overlap and it looks a mess. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong and how to fix this? Maybe what I'm trying to ask makes sense.

Hey new friend...where did you get your blog from?

Also where did you get the free clipart from? Especially the one near your name. I think that would be great to add to our Pen Pal sheets.

Hi friend!!

I typed in blogspot and it pulled up blogger. That is where I saw that most teachers have their blog sites through. After I got the blog account created I then went and searched for free blog templates and found places that offer free codes for backgrounds.

The clipart image I have on here as my picture I purchased from thistlegirl designs. They have a TON of cute stuff that is great for teachers. I bought the membership and it comes with all the graphics in the members section. She does have a free section with a few free items. Would highly recommend becoming a member. There are monthly calendars, etc.

Could you share your blog site so I can check to see what's going on? I have worked on creating my own blog, second, and third. They are addicting.

I found the same thing so I went into edit html and messed around with the codes. I would make a change and then check the blog, if I didn't like it I'd try again. I have never done this before and it was rather daunting going into encoded stuff, but I went for it and it worked! Keep trying. I just made a blog also but I'm trying to figure out how to insert a download from google docs. Does anyone know how? I've up loaded the files onto google docs but I'm stuck there.

I finally found a free blog background place where you could actually download the whole template and they had directions. So I got to insert a whole template. It's cute but it wasn't the initial one I wanted. Couldn't figure that one out though. the blog is www.missdelk.blogspot.com
Just created it today and it is pretty bare. Just a work in progress! Would love to check yours out as well!!!
I have no idea how to insert documents though! Any pointers here? Not sure how the google doc thing works or where to even go for that? Any help there? Thanks!!

Blog Tips

Great Website! It just takes a while to get going. I'm focusing on getting my blog format down, widgets added, and content planned.

You can use Scribd or Google Doc to upload documents. To use Google Docs you will need to set up a gmail account with Google. Google Docs will allow you to upload your own documents, download others, and save all documents within your Google Docs account. Once you access the gmail account, the menu at the top will allow you to select documents within the Google account. Once you select the documents in the menu at the top, you will have access to a side bar of choices to include uploading, downloading, setting up folders to save documents, etc.

Some blogs use Scribd to upload documents for their blogs. This works the same way as Google Docs. However, having both memberships will allow you to download from either format. You can choose which would be easier for you to upload and post on your website. Both provide a code to insert the document right into your blog.

FYI: You could use your Google gmail account for membership related or a way to cluster emails that you would rather not have come to your school or home account.

www.mrsnewman1.blogspot.com (for my families)
www.mrsnewman2.blogspot.com (for posting documents)
www.mrsnewman3.blogspot.com (family)

I used a background template and added headers. Then I made adjustments to the header to center it, as well as needing to adjust the advanced settings for the blog template to meet the size of blog columns. It's been a fun learning experience.

If you choose to use a header .... adjust the title, or make any of the following changes ... use the following directions I have for the following:

To Center and Align Header
Go to Advanced Settings: CSS and enter the following:
CENTER #header-inner {background-position: center !important; width: 100% !important;}

To Center and Align Text
Go to Advanced Settings: CSS and enter the following:
CENTER #header-inner {text-align: center ;}

To Move Title Text Down
Go to Advanced Settings: CSS and enter the following:
VERTICAL .titlewrapper {padding-top: 100px !important;}

To Center the Title Text
Go to HTML
Within Header (adjust 150 and 270) to center title text

Have Fun!

BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!! I had a blog on blogspot and it was great. then a parent hit the button, next blog... and it was a porn site. I haven't been back to using a public blog forum since. Thankfully our new website has it's own form and it's protected!

Thanks for all this info! I appreciate it!!! Your blogs look great!!!

I love the backgrounds you have from shabbyblogs..... those are the ones I had trouble uploading. It would have that background plus the background from blogspot as well overlapped. Which directions did you use to upload your background?

Background

After selecting a background from the Shabby Blogs website, I copied the code for the background, went to my blog, added a gadget, selected HTML/JavaScript, inserted the code into the content box - no title, then I saved. Then I saved my changes and viewed my blog. The new background was in place. It took me awhile to walk myself through all of the steps as this is a new tech step for me also.

In blogger, you can remove the Nav Bar at the top of your page so that viewers to YOUR blog cannot click on next blog. I highly recommend removing the Nav Bar for any blog used for educational purposes. I just googled "Remove Nav Bar from blogger" and got very easy directions to follow. (My district IT facilitator recommended that I do this to keep the site safe and child friendly.)

thanks for the tips!! Greatly appreciated! I got the navigation bar removed!

Ok, I uploaded a downloaded template orginally for my blog. I followed your directions and uploaded the copied and paste coding from shabby blogs and it has both backgrounds overlapping each other. How do I get rid of the when I downloaded and uploaded?

Thanks for help!

Directions

If you are using LeeLou Blogs templates ... go to http://leeloublogs.blogspot.com/2007...ackground.html and follow those directions. You can check to see if you followed the directions that apply to your chosen background. Some backgrounds are designed for 2 column and some for 3 column. Make sure that the background you have selected matches the number of columns on your blog. Most of the blogger designers that I have found, do have FAQs that you can find on their website to help you through the set-up process. It may be that the designer background you are using has special directions for their specific codes to match their background to your blog template.

One More Question

Did you replace the code, or add the second code. If you added the second background code, then delete the first code. You will only want one background code as an added gadget.
