Is this a thing where you sub?

Students sighing in irritation when other students ask a question.

I was supposed to teach 3rd grade today, got switched, by the school, to 6th math. Sixth graders rotate to simulate middle school. All day long, in every class, exasperated sighs when students asked questions.

They just wanted math to be over asap so they can use their iPads during "free time" at the end of class. After correcting the sighers I made sure I went right up to the minute so they had no iPad time.

6th graders are at the middle school, so they are expected to follow school rules and expectations. Some of the girls are becoming 7th graders early, so I have seen a little of it. Of course, being a 1-1 Chromebook school, kids get enough screen time. Many who can play educational games when they are done with their work, choose to read a book instead. Go figure. I was in 6th grade three days this week. Only two boys and a few girls gave me the sighs, but mostly because I told them to stop talking. They are very social.

My 8th graders do it sometimes. I tell them to stop and keep it inside.
