Lucy Calkins Writing Workshops

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I've heard a lot of great things about Lucy Calkins' writing workshops and I would really love to learn more. I have a few questions I'm hopind some of you could help me out with:

Which book of hers would be the most useful for an intermediate (3rd grade) teacher?

Does anyone have tips on how to implement her take on writing workshops while still teaching the 6 Traits?

I am also using the Daily 5 and CAFE in my classroom. I had been thinking about creating a 6 Traits board similar to CAFE in my classroom, where we would post strategies for each trait as we learned them. I also planned on using mini-lessons to teach the writing strategies. Do you think that could be combined with Lucy Calkins ideas?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me!

I am also a first timer to Lucy Calkins and I use daily five in my classroom. I would say that the first two books are the most important. I don't know about intermediate but in primary the first two came in a bundle and I have been buying the others individually used because the entire kit is ALOT. I am going to make the writing portion of daily five a workshop. I am SUPER excited

Thank you for sharing. I will definitely see what I can find, in terms of the books. I had seen the package and it was SO expensive!

I would read "No More, I'm Done" by Jennifer Jacobson and use her book (which is available online in full!!!) instead of Lucy!! Just my opinion!

First, you may want to post your question in the Rose Room, which is the Units of Study room. Lucy Calkins wrote the WW U of S for K-2 and 3-6. It is expensive but worth every penny.

I also do D5, Cafe and Calkins in my first grade classroom. I did create a Cafe inspired writing menu based on 6 traits that I plan to use next. I will share it with once I can attach it. Since I,m still a new PT member I'm not allowed to attach yet.
