I thought it would be useful to share some management ideas!

I started using a wireless doorbell towards the end of last school year and I can't wait to use it all year long next year! Google "wireless doorbell in the classroom" for ideas!

Wow! How interesting! I might check that out! I'll have a really small class this year, but I still may need something like that. It sure would help with transitions

This doorbell sounds like a really good idea and could help with transitions. Speaking of which...I need some great ideas on helping my 1st graders transition between activities in a smooth manner. When we shift subjects, they get loud and start playing. I have been teaching for 6 years, but I still haven't mastered how to do transitions smoothly--Help!!!

Sonya J, I like the doorbell for transitions. I pick a "chime" that is a longer song and once it starts playing, the kids have to transition before the song is over. Works great! I also like setting a timer and they try to beat the timer. They lose if they are too loud!

Unfortunately, the doorbell did not work for me. I use a jingle bell stick as my attention signal.

For transitions, I use a sand timer. If the entire class is ready before the sand runs out, they earn a piece to Mr. Potato Head. Once he is complete, they receive a reward.

To control the volume in my classroom, I use a traffic light and musical jewelry box. The traffic light indicates what voice level they should be at. If they are not at the correct level, I open the box and the music plays. Once they quiet down, I close the box. If there is any music left at the end of the day, they receive a reward.

I bought a wireless doorbell for my classroom. I haven't implemented it yet, but will soon. I'm going to do a search on it now to find uses for it. Thanks for your post.
