Silver Sneakers Program

On Jan. 1, I started new insurance through my state retirement system. As part of it, they pay for Silver Sneakers for all retirees on it, even if not on Medicare yet (I retired early). The cool part is I can get a free YMCA membership with it! Iíve been wanting to go to yoga classes, but I didnít want to pay. My community has a gym that I already pay for, so I donít want to pay twice. And I didnít want to pay separately for just individual classes. So this is really great that I can go to any class I want plus use the other equipment, etc. for no money out of pocket. The YMCA is very close to my house, so itís very convenient, too. Anyone else use Silver Sneakers?

I would love to but my health plan does not provide this membership. I have heard great reports about it. Enjoy!

I do not have this option but then I am not 65 yet. My DH has blue cross and has a choice of several gyms including our local Y for $5 per month. He did not join our Y (too crowded) but did join a gym. I look forward to this benefit when I age into Medicare in a few years...

I love silver sneakers! You can belong to as many gyms as you like, so if you find that one gym has a better pool, class or an instructor you prefer, you enjoy them all!

My friend and I belong to a gym which is a wellness center for a local hospital. Unfortunately, they do not participate in the Silver Sneakers program. We have mentioned it to them, and would love for them to either participate or develop a similar program, but no such luck. I think there is a free app to accompany the Silver Sneakers program, as well. How wonderful that you can take advantage of the program. I wish we could.

There is no place near me that is affiliated with Silver Sneakers either. It actually seems like itís kind of limited...maybe only bigger cities? It would be nice if it was available to more of us.

I did and loved it! I belonged to 4 gyms. This year my insurance decided not to pay for it, but will pay half the membership. So I had to drop 2 gyms. I pay $17.50 a month for one gym, and $5 for another. I really miss SS. I had already switched insurances once to get SS. I may change again next year, so I can get it back.

I love Silver Sneakers! I am not 65 but get it through our health insurance. I go to Anytime Fitness near me. I am also a member of the Aquatic Center.
We had an exercise class with an instructor for older people. The center quit giving us the instructor, so now we meet as a group by ourselves. Itís been working out well. I do not want to pay for classes and thatís what they want now.
