Hated rainy days

Just sitting here listening to the rain remembering how I hated rainy days when I was teaching. The kids here in AZ go crazy when it rains. Our classrooms opened right into outside. So everywhere you went you had to go outside. (Bathrooms, special classes, lunch, library for a video instead of recess) I am happy to be here in my warm house under a blanket. I love retirement!

Same here!
My last building was like that although it did have one single bathroom stall for girls and one for boys inside. Lunch was outside, but since it supposedly never rains here in SoCal the lunch arbor didn't even have a roof. Whenever there was even the slightest sprinkle, parents would be up in arms if their kids had to play or eat outside during recess/lunch. The office phone would be ringing off the hook, so one after another principals caved in and kept the kids inside so they wouldn't melt. Of course that meant that teachers had absolutely no breaks at all throughout the day, except a 5-minute restroom run every 3 hours as aides watched their classrooms. Lunch in the classroom, a 10-minute "recess" watching videos in the All Purpose Room, and so on.
This year is an El Niņo year, so it has been raining a lot. I feel really sorry for the teachers who are still in the trenches.

Oh, me too! The best thing this morning was hearing the rain and thinking I would not have to deal with crazy kids, no recess, short lunch, and flooding. I am also under the covers with my dog and my iPad. Life is good!

Not rain, but snow and ice here

I am so happy I retired.

This week: Monday off for President's weekend.
Tuesday school as usual,
Wednesday school closed for snow day,
Thursday delayed opening-entire schedule changed and no recess,
Friday school as usual.
OMG-those first graders probably are spinning out of control.

Last week was the same, snow day, delayed opening, Friday off for PD.

I was just thinking about the rain and school. We have had tons of rain this year and the poor teachers have had to have indoor recess a lot. Add to that the afternoon car duty ( somehow I got that every time it rained) and the afterschool/evening programs, the rain just made everyone crazy. So glad I don't have to worry about it now!

We had endless days of indoor recess in the winter either due to cold or inclement weather. The kids went to the gym, but it wasn't the same as playing outdoors. They also did winter clubs for a number of weeks, and last year, they decided to do one of the sessions in my classroom, so I had to vacate and couldn't work in there. That really frosted me. This winter, if the weather is bad, I don't go anywhere and just stay home and relax. It is one less piece of stress off of my plate. Retirement is terrific!

When I was teaching, I would always whine "I just want to be home baking cookies!" on rainy days like this. Well, today I got to do just that! Retirement rocks!
