My district updated computers and now smart notebook does not work. We've been told it is done now. What do I do now in order to use my board?

Thanks!

Kimberly

purposes? As a touch monitor for Internet, Word, Power point, etc?

That totally sucks. Have you tried yourself? Have you contacted Smart Tech directly?

Good grief--what a waste of resources! I'd be ticked.

BTW, What is your new computer? I'm interested in knowing because I'm hoping to get a new computer and don't want this issue.

I teach students with intellectual disabilities so I want interactive games, mostly. I am not a powerpoint person because that stuff just doesn't hole their interests (or mine . I've fought to stay awake in many trainings because of power points.) I created some and downloaded some when the notebook software worked but now I am trying to figure out what to do.

I have a macbook pro but the incompatibility happened we we upgraded operating systems. Just check and see what operating systems will support your notebook version.

Yeah, it is quite frustrating.

Back tracking a little, I know that if I want to work on a file in WORD, and I want to present that file using the smartboard and make changes using a SB pen, I have to convert that into a smart file using a smart notebook. I think that's how I was able to edit and make changes using the virtual (or smart) keyboard. Is it possible for you to ask the IT and put the software back on? That's one of the reasons why SB is convenient otherwise I think you should still be able to use the board with the pen as they are. And I think you should still be able to save the stuff that you write on the SB. I just don't think you can convert a WORD file and edit using the SB features. You need to let your IT know that they need to install it in your computer.

Unfortunately we would have to upgrade the software in order for it to work. That costs money so that isn't going to happen. I will just have to see what else I can do.

Can you get Apple TV?

Same in our district. When I upgraded my Mac from Maverick, I lost the Notebook. There was a "fix" for $65, but by the time all the paperwork was done, I preferred using Apple TV with the tablets the kids were using. Apple TVs were about $69.

I found myself far more mobile in the classroom - I wasn't tethered to the front. The students were not limited either. They could take their tablet from their seat, toggle to the projector through Apple TV and demonstrate whatever they needed too. They have whiteboard apps that allow hand writing - the possibilities are really quite endless.

As a teacher, you can create whatever lessons you want in the same way as Notebook by using different apps.

Apple TV is all I use now, and told the IT guy to forget purchasing the Smart Technologies "fix" for me.

Can students use laptops w Apple TV or would it have to be iPads? My school has iPads K-2 and laptops 3-5.

If you have notebook files saved on your laptop, you can use SMART Notebook Express to open them. It is a simplified version of SMART Notebook that opens the files online. Just google it.(I'm on my phone right now so the link does not work)

Keep 11.4 Smart Notebook software

If your computers were updated, someone might be trying to update Smart software too. The newest versions cost monies (14.1?) but you can continue to use 11.4 version if you had it before. 11.4 is the last version that will work without having to pay for it. Our computers at the college were updated but 11.4 Notebook was kept on the computers and all seems to be working fine.
See if they could change the Notebook version on your computer so that you can still use your board.
Good luck

Yes 11.4 should still work. Ask about it and if they have the instillation disc.

Chantel9378: Apple TV w/ laptops

I've used my MacBook Pro and Mac Air with Apple TV all the time.

My husband (tech supervisor at our district) thinks that you could with a PC, but is unsure. We are all Mac at school and home so it hasn't been in our radar.

still free downloads to Notebook

The software is still free up until, I think 15 starts the paid subscription. You can still download 14 or at the very least 11 so your smartboard is usable!

website: https://education.smarttech.com/prod...ebook/download

click on down arrow to choose the free version you want.

this site helps if you can not find your product key:
