We have just adopted Go Math by Houghton Mifflin. Does anyone have experience with it? Good/Bad things about it? Just curious. We have a 1/2 day training later this summer. Thanks for any thoughts.

The first 3 or 4 chapters are really hard because it's so language heavy, and there's a lot of reading. As you know, many beginning first graders are not yet reading. We do most of it together, as almost everything needs to be read to them. After chapter 4 I can start letting my high flyers/strong readers have more independence, and focus more on the lower math students.

You'll need to supplement for fact fluency. Telling time is sparse. There's no money taught, but it's in our curriculum, so we do our own thing for pennies, nickels, and dimes.

I don't mind it, but I don't love it. It's fine.

when we were choosing a new math series. We went with MyMath. They're very similar, but we thought the MyMath was a little more user friendly.

Money is not in the common core standards for first grade, so you won't find it in most series.

We just finished our third year with Go Math. The first year was really tough, not gonna lie. I don't mind it now, but I don't love it. I agree with pretty much everything Munchkins said. The first several chapters are really tough. It's pretty hard for the kids, but they usually rise to the challenge. A lot of higher level thinking and problem solving.
