When you’re on your last day of vacation you say “aww, we’re going home tomorrow.”

You don’t say “crap...I have to go to work tomorrow.”

You still have to clean the house, but you can decide when! It can wait until tomorrow!

NEVER having to write sub plans so you can be sick...many times I dragged to work because it was just easier.
Every day is a 'Snow Day'

You can read into the wee hours and not worry about getting up the next morning.

make that perks lol

I’ve been retired for over 2 years and I still wake up pleasantly surprised I don’t have to go to work.

I love this freedom! Last Sunday morning, I looked at my calendar—I only had plans for 1 day. By Monday morning the week was full. I love the flexibility to to what I want.

One of the best parts of retirement for me is that people believe me when I say “No, thank you.” Maybe it’s an age thing and I look old and not worth the hassle, but I love that people have stopped persisting.

Retirement joys

Staying up past 9 PM

Sleeping past 5 AM

Eating breakfast when you want

Eating lunch when you want and taking more than 30 minutes if you wish

No longer grading papers while "watching" television

no Back To School Night

no parent conference days

no faculty meetings

no professional development

no naughty children to deal with

no more being surrounded by every cold virus known to man

no more washing my hands 20 times a day

going to the doctor, buying groceries, shopping for fun, going to the movies, having lunch out in the middle of week days is so easy and fun! Or at least easier if we are talking about doctor visits.

RETIREMENT IS A JOY!

Retirement means that I can pick up and go without hesitation. If a friend asks me to join her on a road trip, I can have my bag packed in less than an hour and be off on another adventure.
Retirement means that I can travel along with my husband on business whenever and wherever.
Retirement means being able to plan vacations without being tied to school calendars.

When the weather forecast is for bad weather and you don't have to worry about whether or not a snow day will be called.

Traveling at off-peak times.

Not having to make lunches and dinners for the week and being able to grocery shop when the crowds are not there on the weekends.

Being able to go to the movies on weekday afternoons.

Planning fun things on during the week and on weekends without having to worry about lesson plans, evaluations, and things that the principal and district require that take hours of your "free" time. And no more boring after school faculty meetings, ever!

Taking exercise classes in the morning instead of after work.

Being able to schedule medical and other appointments any time I want or need to.

I, too, am still a little surprised when I realize I don’t have to worry about work anymore! I love being lazy the most. There I said it. I’m lazy these days!

you can basically do what ever you want.....I am finding getting away on Monday's is a great day for a one or two day get away.

We had some rainy days here in Cali a couple weeks ago, and I was so happy I did not have to deal with a rainy day schedule.

Doctor and dental appts in the early morning.

Just a relaxed feeling all day long.....I love retirement!

Monday was my grandson's birthday so I was able to go to Subway and get him a surprise lunch and drop it off at his school office. Never did that before. Being he turned a hungry 13, it was a great feeling.

I've been giving the 18 year old rides to college, which is a half hour away. There's a botanical garden across the street so I take my new little retirement mutt for a walk there every day. When I've had enough of the gardens I drive 15 min down the road to the beach where I take another walk.

I sleep as much as I need. Some days I get up early and some days later. All depends on how I feel.

Not to mention all the negative things that this decade of education that is not missed.

So so great!!!!

Just got back from Thailand. Glad I can just lie on my couch and rest off my mixed up days and nights.
