Clip to ScrapBook #1

It will be 4 years in June that I retired from classroom teaching. My district offered me a part time job as a literacy support teacher. For 3 years I loved it. It was very flexible (I could work from 9-3) and I had the support of the principal and teachers. This year they changed it to math interventionist (my strength is literacy) and coaching. It is in a different school with a different principal. She has assigned me a breakfast duty (7:35 and frequently wants me to fill in as a sub because they have a shortage. I donít feel comfortable subbing, but have come to enjoy the intervention piece because I enjoy working with kids. The teachers are overwhelmed trying to manage behaviors so they really donít want coaching and the principal doesnít really understand the role of a coach. Plus, the behaviors are so out of control that I feel it is a madhouse there most of the time. So I decided that as of the end of May I am retiring completely! They may have a part time reading interventionist position opening up which I have been offered, but after talking it through with DH, I decided that it is time to just enjoy the freedom of not having to work. Life is too short.

So, I will be legit on this board

Hope you enjoy retirement as much as I do. I was afraid I would miss teaching. But not so much. I am having fun with my flexible schedule and time to do what I want to do. Hopefully you will find that aspect enjoyable as well.

You have earned your full retirement. I agree with you that life is ust too short. Your observation on coaching was interesting. I liked both of our coaches in math and literacy, but hate having to schedule them at a specific time we were assigned, and it was another source of stress. Being ready for retirement and making the decision is the hardest part. You have done that. I hope your remaining weeks are fun and productive. Congrats to you and welcome to the good life!
