How many times a year?

How many times a year do you travel for pleasure? It can be driving, flying, or any other type of transportation and has to include spending at least one night away from home.

When I worked full time in a school, I usually only took one trip a year for fun, usually for a week or more, though I did some other travel to visit relatives (not that those trips aren't fun, but they had a purpose that was not just pleasure ). Now that I work part time, I take about 4 trips a year, though they are usually shorter (4-5 days).

How about you?

Once my son graduated from high school, I stopped yearly trips for the most part. However, I try to do a camping trip or two each year. I can bring my dogs while camping. On other trips I have to board the dogs which is an added expense.

I truly need a nice long relaxing trip, but that won't happen anytime soon. Plus, I don't have anyone to travel with. My son is newly married. I've been a widow for years. My friends just won't go. Single traveling can be fun, but it's also...well..lonely. Sigh...

I should look into a resort somewhere so I can have alone time but also group activity time when I want it.

We've had 4 so far this year, with 3 more planned and thinking about 1 more. Retirement is fun!
When I was teaching it was 3/year week long trips and a few 1 night get-aways. DH had 1 conference that I would tag along in the summer, too.

Not nearly as much as I'd like to, but I try to once a year, maybe twice. I do many day trips though, probably about 10-15 a year.

Man, if money was no object, I'd travel every other month & do 2-wk long vacations!

Try VRBO. You can find places to stay that let you bring your furry friends. We have taken several trips with our dog this way.

My daughter is married recently too and I miss her though she lives nearby. It's different now than the days we would take trips together.

We usually take a vacation once a year. We are normally gone 7 to 10 days. Then we also go away for one night on our anniversary. We visit a small town and usually stay in a B&B. Then we normally stay in a hotel at least once a year when we visit my husband's daughter. She has cats and I am allergic so that is why we do not stay with her at her home. So normally three times a year.

For most of my life we've taken 1-2 trips a year. The past few years have included multiple trips, retirement is great!

We take about 10 trips per year for fun.

We enjoy attending at least 1 professional football & basketball games each month during the seasons. It is a weekend trip each time.

Also, we take 2-3 Summer vacations per year.

I am not fond of driving, but if we are going somewhere that is at least 2-3 hours away, we get a hotel. We take 2-3 extended(week or more)trips per year. There are so many things to see in our state that we take lots of weekend trips. (usually 1 or 2 times a month)

Does camping count? We go at least once a month during the school year and many during the summer.

We take at least 2 big trips involving planes or driving 6+hours every year.

We take 2 trips per year, plus quite a few weekend trips to my parents' house 3 hours away.

My kids and I usually go visit my parents and other family twice a year for a week or so.. Then usually 1-2 trips of some kind during the summer. And sometimes spring break as well. And I do a weekend away with a girlfriend 2-3 times a year.

We rarely fly anywhere - plane tickets x5 are a killer! But we have so many wonderful places within a day's drive that it's ok.

We would love to travel more often. Most years maybe once, but our biggest problem is having a daughter with a mental illness who is paranoid in crowds, anxious out of her environment, makes us nervous when we leave her alone overnight and always having to arrange care for 2 dogs. I think DH and I may see what we can do to arrange a weekend away for our anniversary.

I moved across the country right out of college, so most of my travelling involves going back to my home state to visit family. I'm not sure if that counts as it's not really just for fun. I typically do 4 visits per year. In the past several years I've gone on a "real" vacation about every other year. My budget is pretty tight.

We used to take about 2-3 a year. Now that my DS and DIL live in San Diego we will be going more often.

We go spring break, summer for a week or so, and several weekend getaways throughout the year. Love to travel! Can't wait for retirement to do even more!

It tends to really depend on the year, but I'm now trying to aim for the 3,2,1 rule

3 weekend getaways
2 out of state trips
1 international trip (this is the one that often gets missed due to $$$)

DH and I took two trips this summer. We took one last summer.

I typically do one trip in summer and a weekend trip a time or two when I can. Growing up we always took a big summer trip and a few weekend trips here and there.

We have a motor home so we try to go somewhere once a month. We don't always go far but at least to the lake for the weekend. This summer we went over 2,000 miles in 8 days.

I have always done a lot of traveling- any type. In the summer I was usually gone for 4-6 weeks - not necessarily in a row. I am now retired. My husband and I sold our house and live in a 5th wheel. We travel full-time! We also plan to park the camper at least once a year and travel over seas. Our first trip is Israel in November.

Once a year if I'm lucky, but there have been years we have none or maybe 2. Gets expensive with 5 and a dog. Growing up, we took one trip for vacation my entire childhood, so at least we're doing better than that.

I go to dog shows fairly often. They are usually three to four days long, and my dog and I compete in conformation and/or performance events. Within this past year, we've traveled from SoCal to Northern California, Nevada, and Arizona. I use the Auto Club guidebook to find motels that allow dogs. It is always fun meeting new people at the shows, some of whom have become good friends.

No set amount. DD22 22 went to college in DC, about an 8-9 hour drive from us. She spent 2 summers interning, but would come home to us usually. We sometimes went to parent weekend, or visited during the summer. We went last weekend and I also helped her move in June. We have been doing a big trip (Bermuda) a few times every couple of years. I go visit my folks who winter in Tucson these past 5 years during my Feb. break. They also have a beach house in Maine that is less than a 3 hour drive, so I go there at least a couple times a summer.

Dh's kids are out of state so we travel frequently. We take weenend trips every month from March through October. We take a weeklong trip in the begining of July and a thre week trip at the end of July. Late August I take my mom on a trip. Last year we went to MN and this year we will go to the beach. We also do a winter trip. Last year we went away over Christmas, this year we will go over the MLK holiday. I also accompanied my mom on a big trip last Feb. and may go again this year.

Dh is retired so he always wants to be on the go. I'm not so it can be hard. Sometime I feel like if we aren't taking care of my mom we are on the road. One time I convinced him to go away without me. Staying home alone was a vacation for me!

Dh has a part time job for one reason, to fund our travel.
