Hi!

I have gotten so many WONDERFUL and USEFUL things from PT that I thought I would share some Journals I've made so far for HM reading Theme 1 (4th grade). I got the idea from a 3rd grade teacher in CA.

Here's the links:

Grandfather's Journey Journal-

Akiak Journal-

I'm also new to 4th grade and I like the Journal idea. How do you use it? Do you give it to them when you start the story and have them do it independently or parts are done together?

Thanks

Journal and/or Practice Book??

Do you do the journals instead of the practice book pages or do you do both? My district orders the practice books so we have to use parts of them and, of course, there's always the issue about copies and paper!

I like how the journals are more condensed and hit the necessary items. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for letting me post your items on my wiki! They are great, and I'm sure many others will be able to use them. Here's the link if the rest of you are using the Journeys series:

Iím new to 4th grade too and this is the first year I have used HM Iíve always done trade books and had fun activities in my journals for the students to complete. So I wanted to make HM just as fun and still use it.

ladylion- My plan is to make them for all of the stories in the series. Hopefully they are all the same stories that you read.

Rachelmpd- I hand them out when we begin the lesson. We do parts of it together (whole group) I am working on smartboard lessons for each story as well that goes along with the journal. Other parts I have them do it together as pairs or small groups. The story questions are directly from the side of the teacherís book where all the comprehension questions are.

Marycuth- I do both the journals and the practice book pages, because my district also orders the PB and we have to use them. This is only the 2nd week of school, but my kids were able to do both. I did send home a few of the PB pages for homework that way they got the practice and I didnít have to create homework.

I had also found vocabulary dominos on proteacher, we have to give vocab tests on all the vocab words in the story and the kids loved playing the dominos as a way to practice their words. MrsSuskoís wiki has a link to them. I add all the other vocab words from the story to the ones I found online.

The vocab dominoes were mentioned so I went back and found a link to the post with all of the vocab dominoes, trifolds and word sorts. My fourth grade folders are getting pretty plump!

Thanks all!

Trifolds/Journals

Clip to ScrapBook #14

Hi Pinkshell3,
i am new to the site and am enjoying it. I have HM series as well and appreciate downloading the Akiak and Grandfathers journey journals. I was trying to follow the thread to get more of the trifolds and or the journals from the series but can't find them for fourth grade. Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

The trifolds and things are in my post, 2 above this one with the blue writing. Click on the link and when it opens up a new page, scroll down about 3 or 4 posts and I've put all of the links to the trifolds, word sorts, and vocab dominoes right there. When each new window opens, you may have to scroll down to find the post with the work in it.
I'd post them all again, but my flash drive crashed and burned, and I haven't downloaded them again, yet.

Journal Template
Old 08-25-2010, 01:41 AM

Clip to ScrapBook #19

HI I was wondering if you by chance had a blank journal template you could share? I want to do the journals but I have the harcourt reading series and am trying to make some up to use for our task menus for centers. I think this would be a great weekly practice for the kids and would be wonderful in rotations.

Thanks for any heko.

If you are willing to share the journal template or explain the process of how you created it I would appreciate it so much

Do you have all of the journals for HM? If so could you upload them or tell me where to find them. If possible in the word format, it is easier to edit. Thank you!

Pinkshell,
Do you have the journals for Akiak and Grandfather as Docs? I wasn't able to print from Google docs or even email it to myself. My email is koday#romoland.k12.ca.us I so love these.

I also wanted to know what are the the abreviations: ES MS AS FS are for grading?

Thanks,
MsKati
