Hello,

I have two students with autism who are in the general Ed setting most of the day. One of my kids screeches loudly and another repeats many of the teachers words. Do you have any strategies for keeping kids (especially with autism) quieter during instruction so they donít disrupt the lesson too much?

I created visual aids with real pictures of the student modeling the appropriate behavior (ex: finger over mouth to show quiet voice), and hold up when the student needs a reminder. When the student is displaying appropriate behavior give them immediate feedback (I love how you have a quiet voice) and you can reinforce/pair with a token system as well. We have also used edibles for reinforcement and then slowly start to decrease the amount (more in the beginning of trying to distinguish the behavior, and gradually release).
