Next year I swear I am going to create an automated e-mail response which reads:

PLEASE DO NOT E-MAIL ME AGAIN OVER WINTER BREAK.

I do an auto-reply for winter and spring breaks:

Hello!
I am on winter/summer break and will not be available from (beginning date) to (end date). When I return to work on (date), I will answer emails as promptly as possible.
Thanks for your understanding, and enjoy your holiday

Works like a charm!

Any time I have a break (or extended absence), I always turn on my out of office replies. It usually reads:

"Hello, [district] is currently on [season] break from [date] to [date]. As such I will not be checking my email often. I will respond to emails in the order I receive them, thank you."

I don't look at my email over long breaks. I will look on Sunday before I go back as I don't like to be surprised, but there is no reason to stress over something now days before I need to be back at work. This was a hard skill for me to learn- I used to tell myself I'd just "check to make sure there was nothing there." Well, that only works as an anxiety lessening strategy if there actually is nothing there! Finally I learned to just stay away all together and I do a much better job of not thinking about it. I don't usually bother with an out of office reply, but that's an excellent idea if people are used to getting a response from you over break. I do have a teacher friend at my school who does put out of office replies over all of our breaks.

Stop looking. I email people when I think of something - Sometimes that's Wed at noon over break, sometimes it's at 11pm. I don't expect a response until our work hours. When I get an email from someone outside work hours, I assume they're doing the same and I answer them during work hours when I can.

Just because we can see the email doesn't mean we have to answer it!

No emails over break

We started break on December 23. I really haven't received any emails since. I probably wouldn't reply if I did. I did email a question to my three administrators on Dec. 28th but they all have out of office replies set up. I have no problem with that.

Yep!

I tell my teachers unless its an absolute emergency I will not contact them by e-mail over break. Their time is too precious and I want them to enjoy themselves...it can wait!!!

I went back into work today and checked my email just a few minutes ago. Got 47 in my Inbox. Most are Junk or what doesn't really concern me. A few Reply All people (who really need to stop that). The ones that I need to respond to got my Out Of Office reply during the break. I'll get to those when I am able.
For me, checking/using district email is for during my contract hours when I'm (required to be) in the building.

I'm one who does check emails but won't necessarily reply. I'm like a PP, I'll email a colleague if it's something I'm thinking about and don't want to forget. I don't expect a reply. I'll check email also to just clean up the junk so when I start back, I'm wasting my time doing that.

I've never had parents email during breaks but I'm also in elem so that could be the reason.

My last year of teaching, a Parent from H3LL got a hold of my personal cell number. I received 18 texts over Thanksgiving break. Really?!
