Stimilus Money

Did your special education dept. get stimilus monies? If so, are you getting anything for your classrooms? We were told that the buck of the money had to go for other emergencies. I thought that the money was earmarked. What's the law concerning this?

that it was specifically to supplement, NOT supplant, current SpEd funding. If you look up the word supplant it means something about taking by force or a forced substitution or something similar.

It meant that they have to use it for SpEd ONLY and it could NOT be used for a current existing or ongoing cost--like our salaries, or current classroom budgets. They also had to sign an agreement to that effect and show supporting documentation if requested.

I got a Smartboard, laptop, a new Reading curriculum and my own sets of TEs, online support, books, supplemental books and workbooks for our schoolwide math series--CURRENT ones--not old leftover ones from storage.

I haven't gotten any money. I think if our school got any it was used for something else because we haven't seen or heard anything about it. When did you get it? We are all working with high case loads and our due process time no longer exists. It has gotten worse and worse every year. All I've heard about is budget cuts.

I got a direct instruction math and reading series for my resource kids. This year I am purchasing a laptop and materials needed for preschool, and replenishing my supply for reading and math. I also purchased some interventions for my students that just needa little boost outside of reading and math.
I just went to a SPED meeting for our state on stimulus money and our state is really cracking down on schools. They are asking us to mark all of our purchases, so easily identified in case of an on sight visit. Its not meant to be for general education students!

We were so excited last year when we were told we could chose anything we wanted and they wanted the items emailed back to them BY THE END OF THE DAY! Only then to find out at the end of the year that we aren't getting those items because the county had decided to use the money to purchase a new IEP program. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
