Has Anyone Else Heard this?????

In a meeting today, we were told that EC teachers at the middle and high school level now have to take the PRAXIS II for the core subject if they are the teacher of record and to be highly qualified. PRAXIS 511 is now invalid and will not be recognized by the federal government. This includes teachers of self-contained classes, whether their students will ever reach that academic level or not. (If an EC teacher teaches Language Arts and Math - then they have to take the PRAXIS II in those subjects). As a self-contained teacher will have to take all 4 core subject tests or go back to school and take 24 hours in each core subject. This is what we were told - has anyone else been told the same thing??? This has to be completed in a very short time period. This will affect over 700 teachers in our state alone.

That's been true in NJ for at least a few years (2004? I don't quite remember). I found that if you've taught the subject for a few years, then the Praxis tests aren't actually that difficult. Of course, they *are* expensive, though, and my school doesn't help pay for them.

We have been told in NC the 0511 has been invalidated. More details will come.

NC and we took the

PRAXIS0511, which is now invalid, and other EC PRAXIS. Hope to hear more this week at EC conference. Concerned because the class is self contained and right now hear that must take all 4 of the PRAXIS exams. As far as we know - no one is grandfathered in.
