check the district web site and see if there is an ELL program that is used. Then go to that publisher's web site and do some background reading.
Here are links to two programs both from National Geographic School Publishing (my district used Avenues).

You might also want to do some reading about SIOP which is a general support for ELLs--there's a fair amount of info about it on line, some summaries of their recommended strategies on there.

Check out

it has wonderful supports for teachers and parents.

Great suggestions from Broomrider!

I'd also see if there are any specific district initiatives you should be familiar with. Also if you're in a Common Core State, look into alignment with your state standards and CCSS - How do they influence the way you will teach ELLs as well as support other teachers.
