Clip to ScrapBook #1

I teach 2nd grade in a mixed community where there are a lot of English and Spanish speaking families. My district cut off all bilingual education past 1st grade. Next fall, I will have about 10 students from a bilingual classroom who do not know how to read in Spanish. It is also my evaluation year based on student growth. Their former teacher taught mostly in Spanish all year, so the kids don't have a lot of exposure to English. I do not have any training in ESL and feel like I am a fish out of water. I was told about the SIOP model and ordered books about it to study this summer. If you have any ideas, I would appreciate hearing from you.
