Working this Monday?

Not really a vent, I mean I guess it could be for some? Monday is an optional day for us and I thought it was for most since it is a holiday. I mean banks and post offices are closed. I was just talking to a friend who works in a different county (just a county over from me) and they have to work on Monday (still a workday, just mandatory.) I found it odd...is anyone else having a mandatory workday on Monday or just optional. I just became very curious about this!

Optional? So every staff member can individually choose if they're going to work or not? If they do, does that mean they have one less day to work later in the year? How does that work??

We work Monday. No ifs, ands, or buts.

We have it off this year but it is used as a snow makeup day so we usually are there, just got lucky this year!

This being my first full year as a teacher, I am not really sure how it plays out with the days at the end of the year. However, they did tell us it was optional and we only needed to let our office staff know if we WERE going to be there. I will be there because I am taking a training class but it is optional. I am so shocked to see it is mandatory for people!

Teacher Planning Day, mandatory, but only 1 meeting for an hour. I need time to regroup in my room, so it's okay.

We have the whole week off, but we are also in school until June 28th thanks to Sandy and Nemo, so I'd kind of just rather be working than sitting around all week at this point.

We are on winter break this week.

I would love optional days or even Mandatory Teacher Work days. We don't get any time to prepare for students. Every paid day is with students or sitting through useless "trainings". I guess all our personal time is considered "optional time" by our district. We always have the option of going in to do all the stuff we don't get to on paid days.

We don't usually have President's Day off, but our midwinter 3-day weekend happened to fall this week, so we're off on Monday.

We're off. It's a good thing because we had conferences last week and I am exhausted! We had a half day with students yesterday and the other half was listed as a "workday" on the calendar but my admin filled up every minute of it with meetings. Apparently the union checked and there isn't anything they could do to stop them. That was very frustrating! We don't have keys to get into school on weekends or days it's not open. I actually have a lot to do just to catch up from all the time I spent preparing for conferences instead of planning, etc. and my entire room has to be covered for state testing.

Ours was a flex day (build in snow day), but we took a day off for fog before Thanksgiving....so we have school. That's fine with me. As much as I would love to have Monday off, I'd rather go now than the end of the year when the weather is nice!

It is a regular scheduled school day for teachers and students. Never had it off at any of the schools I've worked at in WI.

We don't recognize it here. We have Martin Luther King day off instead...apparently he's more important than the Presidents. I'm in Madison, WI though...this place is so backwards anyway.

We are off on Monday.

I worked in a district that had an optional staff development day. The district offered staff development during the summer. We could choose which class we wanted to take. If we did not attend two classes during the summer then we had to attend the one offered on the optional workday. It was our responsibility to attend two staff developments.
