a spring chorus program, which theme would you like to see/hear, or do you have another idea? We have done all of the following (patriotic twice, one of which was just last year, the others, once each). Its a K-5 group with mostly primary kids, so it can't be anything too difficult or complicated. Right now I am thinking of repeating Broadway because it went over well and I can't think of anything else.

1. Patriotic
2. Children's Broadway
3. Children's Classics (songs like Billy Boy, My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean and Grandfather's Clock)
4. Disney
Other theme ideas?

Thanks!

Nancy

Children's Broadway would be cute. Those songs are classics.

The "classic" songs are sort of boring... everyone knows them! One of our teachers did a chorus production once with a bunch of sea shanties. They were so cute! They also sang some funny pirate songs!

(We sing this song but some of the lyrics are changed for the kids)

The first song here, South Australia is one I know he did.
I would not do Disney because some people have a problem with it.

I like the Broadway idea, too. Last year some kids at our school did great version of "Do You Hear the People Sing? " from Les Mis. It was fabulous. You could do songs from Annie, Sound of Music,Fiddler on the Roof, Seussical! ... ah, tons of great songs come to mind!

Our Spring Concert is always a pop concert with kids in each grade voting on the songs they will do after being exposed to lots- third grade always has a song from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Other grades have other limitations.

My childhood music teacher would pick a musical and distribute one song to each grade for the Spring musical. One year she did Mary Poppins, another she did Annie, and one year she did a retrospective of musicals. Always a crowd pleaser.

musick8 has some great stuff...one year I did a program called "Possibilities" through them...I taught the kids sign language with one of the songs, "Don't Ever Give Up", and for "Big Dreams" they had bandanas that they used as scarfs, they did movements as well, and of course for the other songs as well, "It's my Journey", and "Possibilities", and the kids really got into the "rap" song "I'm Gonna Be", which talks about different careers they could be when they grow up, and some of the kids had dressed in costume for it...very cute. The set was simple...we performed on bleachers, so the students had on yellow shirts, and blue jeans, and the bandanas were red, white and blue. Behind them were signs that had been printed out on Banner Paper, reading "Possibilities" and on the sides of the kids, streaming down from the bleachers were huge sheets of bulletin board paper in turquoise blue and yellow, alternating, and balloons that had been filled with helium by one of the teachers, and washers tying them down on each side, of course alternating blue and yellow.

It turned out very cute, and I was very pleased that the students remembered all their movements and sign language that night.

I was a student teacher then...so that's been a while, but I know that they still sell the kit, and it comes with a P/A CD as well.

I've done some of their other shows, too, if you need any other feedback, if you get to looking at something, and are wondering if it's worthwhile.
