Rethinking Theme

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I went to school today and it seemed like everyone was doing jungle, zebra, and polka dots. So I got to rethinking my original idea and thought about baseball. I know not all kids are into baseball, esp the girls, but they love the peace signs. I was thinking of doing peace love and baseball. Any ideas of how to decorate?

I'm also doing a jungle theme (and REALLY second guessing if that's what I want to do). I'm going to a new school, a new grade and I'm just not sure I still want to do jungle. What to do, what to do????

Good luck, I'll be interesting in seeing what ideas others come up with.

Barker Creek has a line of peace sign products. They have borders, library pockets, etc.

"Peace. Love. Baseball." What else do you really need in life? I know the girls are just as in to peace signs as they are in to animal print right now. I went to Hobby Lobby today and they had tons of peace sign stuff.

You could do a lot about team sportsmanship & you can probably find posters of opposing teams shaking hands or hugging or something. Bulletin board ideas, random & off the top of my head, "Be a peace maker: Follow the Rules," "Home Run Hitters" (put up good work), & your consequence chart could be something about strikes. I have this awesome poster of a baseball player (in pretty "hippy" colors) that says something like, "You can't possibly hit the ball if you're thinking about all the ways to miss it."

I think your students will love either theme you go with.

What was your first idea? Do what you want. If you were doing a jungle or dot theme keep it. Pick something you like.

You can add red, white and blue (4th of July stuff) if you want to do a baseball theme.

I did a sports theme one year and the girls loved it - I incorporated soccer, hockey, baseball, football. It made a lot of really cute boards and involved everybody. The book I used templates from had penalty reports for behavior problems, and goals for the year with a soccer net - the kids all wrote their 3rd grade goals on a soccer ball. My MVP got to sit in a goal during the day. I loved incorporating sports in general - that book really helped show all aspects.

FYI to op: I went to a costume shop today looking for things for my detective theme. My luck was minimal on that, but they had a TON of peace things! I momentarily wished that was my theme because there was so much cool stuff. Good luck to you.

I tried to incorporate Polka Dots with my all girls class last year and I was unable to completely make it happen. This year I am going to do a Chef's Theme. I have found some really great ideas....
Classroom Passes- spatula or large spoon
Door Welcoming Idea- We're the Best Cookies in the Cookie Jar
Rules- Behavior we Relish
Library- Reading Cafe

I hope your theme works well. Have fun!!!
