Professional books for grade one

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I have 3 weeks until my first ever first grader walks in my door! I plan to spend that time reading everything I can to make sure I kinda know what I am doing. Sooo...what are my must reads for someone that has never taught below 3rd grade! What professional books or other books would you recommend. I am very very nervous and I just want to be ready!

Reading With Meaning is a fantastic choice. I read it EVERY year before starting. It is inspirational and gets you jazzed for the first day!

I agree with many of the PPs suggestions.

My first choices would be:
•Daily 5 & CAFE by the "Sisters" (for classroom management & reading workshop)
•Reading With Meaning by Debbie Miller (reading comprehension)
•Growing Readers by Kathy Collins (building independent reading skills)
•Units of Study by Lucy Calkins (for Writing Workshop)
•First Grade Writers by Stephanie Parsons
