Can you share some Halloween party ideas that require minimum preparation?

We have a half day and the students come in dressed in their costumes...so they are ready to party from moment they step in the door.

I don't have an official room parent this year so it will just be me in there. I want to come up with a few group activities and some activities where they are out of my face for a few minutes haha.

Coordinate Graphing Game called “Grab the Candy Corn”
Spider Game (probability game)

There are also good literature resources at Mathwire that can be used as read alouds and then a Halloween-based activity to go with the book.

If you go to the home page of Mathwire, you can type Halloween into the search box. There are other ideas than the ones mentioned above, but these are ones I have used.

We also play Halloween bingo. The day before the party, students brainstorm Halloween and autumn words. I give them two 5 x 5 grids on which to write their words so they can make their bingo games. I bet you can find a website that makes bingo cards. We use candy corn instead of game markers to cover our words.

Activity Village has lots of great ideas for Halloween parties (actually for any holiday party). Here are just a few.

I play "Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin". Several years ago, I made a giant pumpkin and cut out triangles for noses. The kids seem to enjoy it.

I also play "Halloween Bingo". This takes time. I made a grid of 25 Halloween words and pictures (used Word table) The students cut apart the bingo pictures and glue them on the bingo sheet (same grid just blank), so everyone has a random bingo sheet. We play around 4 or 5 times depending on the time we have available. I'd give you mine, but have it in school.

Witch's Broom - Students sit in a circle and pass a small broom (anything can be used). Depending on how many are in my class, I sometimes have 2 groups going. It is kind of like "musical chairs"

Pass the witch's broom stick round and round the room
While the music's playing quickly pass the broom
Anyone is out, if the broom stick drops
Or the one who has it when the music stops

Play music, students keep singing until you turn off the music. Student holding the broom can be "out."
