My earlier post got me thinking, what is your favorite teacher movie? I'm sure there is one I'm forgetting or haven't seen. I'd love to watch an inspiring one this week. I have Netflix or RedBox, so I can look there.

Mr. Holland's Opus is always a good one. Or Stand & Deliver

That's all I can think of right now.

Also McFarland USA was good but it's more about coaching than teaching, per se.

Mr. Holland's Opus is my hands down favorite. I shamelessly rock out during American Symphony every. single. time. I even have it on my iPod. Love it.

A new one DH and I just rented is Spare Parts. It's the true story of the high school robotics team that beat MIT with an $800 robot. Jamie Lee Curtis is the principal and she is hysterical. I may a bit of a robotics nerd, but it was an inspiring movie!

I think Mr. Holland's Opus would have to be my favorite teaching movie! Dead Poet's Society, The Emperor's Club, and Mona Lisa Smile (if that counts?) also stand out. I'm sure more will stand out once I post this!

ETA: True to my word, Freedom Writer's came to mind as soon as I posted! Now let's see how many more come to mind!

Since I am a band teacher who also is a composer and performer, Mr. Holland's Opus is an obvious one for me. Another good one that no one else has mentioned yet is called Teachers from back in the 80's. Nick Nolte starred in it.

1. Lean on Me
2. The Ron Clark Story
3. Bad Teacher (not inspirational but a reminder of what not to do)

The Hobart Shakespeareans

It is a documentary about a teacher working with low income kids and influencing their lives with Shakespeare....excellent
