Notice & Note

Have any of you read this book? I've just finished it and would like to use the signposts strategies this year. I have searched PT to see if anyone has posted about it previously, but I'm getting an error message.

I've googled to see if there are any lists of picture books that contain each signpost, but I'm coming up empty.

Do any of you have suggestions for books that I could use to teach the signposts?

I don't have a list on me at the moment, but if you are on Facebook, there is a Notice and Note group with lots of resources posted. Just search for Notice and Note Book Club.

*I figured out to search you must use the magnifying glass in the top left of your page. I put in Notice and Note and several discussion came up.

I tried to link it here but had trouble !

Yes, I have read this (3 times ) and used it in my 4th grade classroom the last 1.5 years. I plan on teaching 1 signpost a week to start this year. As someone esle mentioned, there is a GREAT group on FB and the author, Kylene Beers, will chime in from time to time. Near the top of the FB page is a link for "files" that teachers have shared with TONS of info (I think it is in a blue bar near "photos" etc). There are lots of books suggested...I start with picture books. There are also videos to use to go along with them. I will try those this year. If you search TPT there is tons of FREE stuff to go along with it. I love this book more than any other PD type book I've read....can you tell I'm excited by it (and I've been teaching for 30 years). Also, they are coming out with a book for nonfiction signposts in Oct.

There is very active group on there. They have files they
share. Sometimes Kylene Beers will join the conversation.

Yes, the Facebook group is great. I've also found a lot on pinterest! Sometimes when I have trouble finding stuff on pt I use google. For example, I would google: "pro teacher" "notice and note" It usually works quite well!

Thanks, Linda/OH. I'll give that a try.

I don't have a Facebook account, so unless their page is open to everyone, I'm out of luck.

It might be worth getting one just to join the group on there (you do have to join). FB is free, as is joining groups. You don't have to use FB for all the "friends" stuff/posting (and possible drama ). You can check it as much or as little as you want, but it is a great supportive group that I use frequently

I tried to send the list as an attachment, (from the Facebook group) but it is coming up as an invalid file. If you respond with your grade level, I can try to copy and paste just that part!

Thank you all for the links and advice. Too bad their Facebook page is restricted. I'm not up for the drama that service creates.
