Do you tip at the drive-thru? The person asked me if I wanted my change today.

I have tipped at the drive-thru there before, but only a dollar.

ETA: Being perfectly honest, I don’t like drive-thru tipping generally. I feel guilty. My problem. I know.

Nope. I don't tip at any place that just has counter service, though. I tip people who serve me at my table or drive something to my door.

I never tip at the drive through. Frankly, I think the whole tipping thing had gone too far. I donít tip at fast food places either.

I follow the same rule as ICrazyTeach - I only tip if you serve me at a table or bring it to my house. I have never tipped at a drive thru.

i tip at a coffee drive thru (why? she wonders...) but only if they weren't snippity and if have change--and it's always 50 cents or less...

IMO it was quite ballsy to ask if you wanted your change!

I don’t go to a drive thru very often, however, I have never tipped. There have been times when I’ve gone to the McDonalds drive thru to get a drink. They have a collection can by the window for the Ronald McDonald house and I will ask the cashier to deposit the change in the can.
I agree that I only tip servers.

It's like when you go to a restaurant and pay cash and then they round up. For example, last week the bill was $27.70 and I got change for $28. A little nervy. I don't tip as much then.

I give the change as a tip. But, if I was asked if I wanted my change the answer would be yes. I don't like being asked for a tip.

I've never tipped at Starbucks. However, I do have a teacher friend who works there as a 2nd job and she says it is pretty much expected and most people do tip. It came up one time when we were at happy hour with a group of friends. I didn't tell her I don't tip .

I could see tipping on a really big order or if you order off of the "secret menu" and ask for something complex or difficult to make. I almost always get a skinny vanilla latte. I guess if you compare it to tipping at a bar, it makes sense. If you tip someone to make you an alcoholic drink, why not tip someone to make you an often more complicated coffee drink?

I do tip at bars, but have always kind of resented it. It never made sense to me to have to tip someone for handing me a beer, often at a higher percentage than you tip a waitress who waits on you for an entire meal.

Bar tipping

I usually tip at bars for the first drink. What bothers me is when I am expecting change and the bartender takes the change and puts it in the tip jar without asking. I once told a bartender that he would have received a bigger tip if he had given me the change.

We never go to drive through anything so no need to think about tipping. I make great coffee at home!

I donít drink coffee so I very rarely go to Starbucks. But I donít see any reason to tip. You order from one person, someone else makes it, and you pick it up. I agree that tipping is out of hand!
