My mom has been very weak since yesterday. She had a hard time walking up the stairs in our apt building.
Went to the doctor today but couldn’t find anything. No fever, no cough, blood pressure good, lungs good. Did an EKG...good.
But she is still weak. What could it be? I’m a nervous wreck. Thank you.

Iíd want bloodwork done. You took her once, but if you donít feel satisfied take her again. Maybe even to the ER if you feel very concerned.

Not sure how old your mom is but did they check for a UTI? That can knock the stuffin's out of older folks and we don't always have the classic symptoms. Make sure she is hydrated. This time of year it is easy to over do the sweet treats and mess with the blood sugars. Is she just over tired from travel and change of pace? Glad she has you to watch over her!

And so simple, but make sure she drinks plenty of water. I get weak when dehydrated. Good luck!

You could get a test for UTI
Old 12-24-2019, 01:38 PM

in drug stores as over the counter and just give it a check to rule it in or out.
I have had a few UTIs without the usual symptoms.

I didnít think of a UTI. Thank you.
She is 76. And has definitely been doing too much.
I wish she would listen to me.

Her not being able to walk up the stairs is what scared me. She never had a problem with the stairs.
So I know there is something definitely wrong.

I'd be worried too and agree with getting checked for a uti. The bloodwork pull was a good move.

My first thought when I read your post was low magnesium levels.

Potassium is also another one that can go wonky quickly.
UTIs can do strange things too --- can make older people (although 76 isn't very old) a little loopy.

I hope things level out soon.
Take care.

We are now in the ER. I called 911 because she vomited a brown liquid that I think was blood.
Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

How scary for both of you. My MIL did this once and it was because her blood sugar was too high. I hope the ER can figure it out for you and her.

I would get a FULL, not just routine blood work. Check for magnesium, calcium, etc.
My mom's calcium gets low..she get weak, tired & forgetful.

Good luck!

I hope you get some answers within the next day or 2. Not the way anyone plans to spend Christmas but at least you know she's getting cared for.

Keep us posted.

Thank you so much everyone for the thoughts and prayers.
They are trying to find the source of the bleeding. She had to get blood last night since her hemoglobin was low.
They kept her overnight. I left at 2am and Iím on my way to see her now.
I will keep you posted. Thank you again. Xo

She seems much better this morning. The nurse just told me the bleeding has stopped. She is having a scope done at 11 so hopefully that will tell us something.

Thanks again. We appreciate the prayers.

So sorry that you are spending Christmas in the ER and hospital. This brings back many memories. My grandmother had a light stroke one year on Christmas Day and it was so hard to get the doctors to check her... they were all on vacation. Another year, my dad was in the hospital with lung cancer. Everything turned out ok, but it's just the fact that you are there instead of being at home.
Prayers for you and your mom!!!
