My quiet Christmas Eve tradition....

Since 2009, my girls have gone to my ex-MIL's house with their father on Christmas Eve. They celebrate with grandparents, great aunts and uncles, aunts and uncles, and cousins. They're usually gone from 2:00 - 10:00 pm or a little later.

Even though this devastated me the first couple of years, I've grown to enjoy it. The craziness of Christmas comes to a halt. My shopping is done, wrapping is done, baking is done, cleaning is done. So I snuggle on the couch with my dog and cats, drink some chai tea, pop some popcorn, and watch Netflix all evening. House lights off, Christmas lights on. It's so incredibly relaxing, which I need after teaching 36 preK students that last week of school, and the insanity of shopping and baking and cleaning during the past few weeks.

I hope you all find peaceful moments this holiday.

Enjoy the peace as I am sure tomorrow will be full of noise, joy and a little craziness. Merry Christmas.

I watched The Christmas Chronicles with Kurt Russel last night. I enjoyed it a lot. Enjoy your night.

Teaching 36 preK students earns you all the peace and relaxation the world can offer. Your ritual sounds wonderful!

Ruby, weíre together in spirit. I, too, am alone tonight and itís lovely. Iíve spent all day prepping for tomorrow, eating, and walking. Iím excited about tomorrow, but I love tonight. Now itís 4:00 and Iím sitting in my clunky recliner, wearing a mishmash of comfy jammies, covered with a fluffy fleece, iPad on my lap, and watching Chopped. Itís a wonderful life.

Merry Christmas to all, however it looks in your house.

I'm also alone, daughter went to spend Christmas eve at her boyfriends. I made my own version of the Melting Pot (fondue restaurant) I made my own broth, have steak, pot stickers and shrimp, also crusty bread. Just relax and watch tv.

Your Christmas Eve sounds amazing. I was seriously contemplating quietly packing a bag, sneaking out of the house last night, and checking into a hotel just to have more than 2 seconds without someone wanting to ask me something or tell me something.... And I only have DH and DD here!!

Glad you're able to find enjoyment in it now, Ruby07. What are your daughters' ages by now? Do you think they'll continue going to your ex-husband's side up into adulthood?

My girls are 19 and 22! They have DEFINITELY learned their father's true nature through the years, with no input from me whatsoever. They have learned that they are far down on his list of priorities. He has a fianceť, NOT the young chick he left us for. The girls do spend time with them, but not willingly. They do love their cousins, though, and these holiday gatherings are the only time they get to see them.
