How many masks?

DH and I go back to work in about a month. We will be wearing masks. I have made three different styles trying to find the ones we like best. Now that I have settled on a pattern, we need more.

How many?

I wa thinking five so Iíd have enough for a week. But then I remembered Iím wearing them everywhere, not just to school. DH said he wants enough for two weeks. We bought some more fabric today. I have been using my momís quilt fabric stash so far.

I would have more than a week's worth in case you need to change your mask during the day for any reason, and so that you don't have to wash them frequently, especially at the beginning of the school year when you are super busy and tired. So if you husband wants to have enough for two weeks, I'd suggest a stash of 16 or more. That's a lot of sewing, though.

I, too, would like to know which pattern you have decided on. I've been trying to find one I like that isn't too hot.

I'm planning on having at least 2 per day, maybe even 3. With enough for a weeks, so probably 15. I work in school with no air conditioning, hence why I want 2-3 per day, so I can switch them out when one gets hot and sweaty. I'll keep the ones I'm not using in our school freezer so they will be cold and refreshing when I switch them out.

I personally have maybe...20. Because my husband keeps buying us masks, and also i have gotten a few for myself with designs I like. I got some off etsy that are cute prints that also have clear front panels

Plan to wear more than one mask each day. They will get moist with condensation as you breathe and talk. I wore a mask for 2.5 hours during summer camp and I did change after about an hour and a half. Teachers do a lot of talking meaning a lot of hot air is coming out of our mouths. I am planning to have 3 with me each day.

This is the pattern I used. I did add about a half inch to the short side for me, and about an inch for DH. The too right pic is some I sold and made for my BFF. I have used regular elastic (too stiff), lingerie elastic (better), and hair ties (best). I did order some regular cord like they put on medical masks. I will try some with those.

The bottom pics are some fabric we chose today. DH is really excited about his Star Wars one. I also promised to put his school mascot on one using my Cricut. I have several ideas. If Iím going to wear a mask, I want a cute one.

They take me around 10 minutes to do.

I want enough to change them out if they get damp from wearing for a long period. When I wear one on a walk with an elderly neighbor, it's pretty damp after abut an hour. If I had one on and another hanging behind my desk, I could switch them out without touching the front fabric or with sanitizing my hands between. While I wore one, the other would dry.

So I'm thinking 15 or so to have two a day plus some extras for if I don't get them in the wash on time or I need to go to a store.

I have 13, but only a few in the style I think I've decided that I like.

We currently have about 5 or 6 per person here. Every time anything gets thrown into the washer, the masks go in, too, so there's always clean masks.

I do need more for when school starts.

If we go back face to face, Iím thinking I will be using a minimum of 3 per day. I currently have 6 masks so I plan on buying a few more.

I hand wash any masks that we have used that day. I let them soak in the sink with hot soapy water (I use anti bacterial dish soap) for 30 minutes, rinse them out, and hang to dry. It has become part of my nightly routine. They are always dry by morning.

Iím also hoping that our board will be providing

We each have about 5 masks. Plus a package of disposables. We clean them at the end of each day. You cannot go anywhere without a mask. They literally will not let you in!

My husband actually found several N-95 masks at a gas station for $5. These are the ones that protect the wearer that healthcare workers wear. I am buying them today.

I'd have a lot more than 5 if I were you. I'd have 2-3 week's worth.

I'm not even in the classroom anymore these days and have 4 boxes of 50-pk of disposable masks, whicn I've only been wearing so far, but I have a few fabric ones too just in case.

You should order a few boxes of dispoasble ones too. With all your work duties and errands when school starts up again, are you really going to feel like handwashing your mask after EACH use as they say to do?

Thank you for sharing this! I just spent a ton of time watching her videos. She does a great job describing how to do every step. I'm going to hammer out a bunch of masks this afternoon.

plan on having two or three each day. Change every couple of hours. So I am thinking 15-20 for a week (unless you do laundry more often than I do, ha, ha).

ima--those fabrics are pretty! and that short video is SOOOOOO much better than the TWENTY minute one i used last night to try this new pattern--ugh! (no talking, just white hard-to-read text at bottom--and difficult to see what she was doing with fabric). i could have used this one as i was having a major no-Growth Mindset moment!

i am planning on having 3 masks at school just in case....

I was planning on wearing one a day. I guess I will have to rethink that. The district or state should provide us with masks since they are an executive order for teachers to wear in school. I have three now but I plan on buying more. If I forget it, the school should have some on hand to give.

Ima Teacher, did you put nose pieces in your masks? If so, what did you use and where did you purchase? Thanks, Recess.

I put them in the ones for DH. I use pipe cleaners. I add top stitching to my masks to help the, keep their shape, and the pipe cleaner just fits between the seam and the top stitching.

I donít out the nose pieces in mine.
