Happy Left Handers Day! Both of my kids and a niece are lefties. We always wondered how that happened when no one else in the family is They all have unique handwriting styles. My kids are exceptional athletes , especially baseball/softball.

Both of our sons are left-handed and my husband and I are right handed. They were also good athletes. We never tried to change them, like people did years ago. Their only difficulty was cutting with scissors. I cut many letters out for their school projects!

I am the only left-handed member in my family. And between all my siblings, they agree I have the nicest penmanship.

I had a paternal uncle, who should have been left-handed, but was switched to right when he entered school. That was the thing to do back in the day. He was actually quite ambidextrous because of it.

I entered kindergarten in 1962. My teacher called my mom in for a meeting to discuss my handedness. This was at a time when education was changing their thinking on it. Thank goodness my mother saw no reason to switch me.

I am the only lefty in my family. Most coworkers agree that my printing/cursive on the whiteboard is really nice.

My twin sister and I are both left handed and so is 1 nephew. Sadly none of us are athletically or artistically inclined but we try hard.

One year I had 7 left handed first graders! One of them was my own DD. They had a left handed K teacher and I was so impressed by their penmanship! To this day my DD has beautiful penmanship and I attribute it to her K teacher.

I am a lefty too. My youngest aunt, who was only a few years older, had her left arm tied to her back in school in order to force her to become right handed. I was lucky because they had stopped the practice by the time I went to first grade.
I had some parents complain that their kids' penmanship was going to be poor if a left handed teacher was modeling the writing. I proved them wrong as my students had the best penmanship of all four first grade classes.

The K teachers in my school did not specifically teach penmanship, so it was up to me as a first grade teacher to do so.

My dad was left handed.

I have lefty tendencies (can shoot basketball lefty, can write with either hand, hurdle like a left hander).

My youngest daughter is left handed.

In my family my mom, 2 brothers and 1 sister is left handed. Only my dad and I are right handed. My 1 cousin went to catholic school in the 80's, they wanted to force her to use her right hand. My aunt & uncle withdrew her and sent her to public where she could use her left hand.

My brother and I are both left-handed. I am always excited when I get left-handed students.

Beach Glass, I was in Kindergarten in 1972 and my teacher didn't like that I couldn't use the scissors, but my mom stuck up for me too.

One thing I love about being left handed is that I don't have to switch fork and knife when I'm eating. I just keep the knife in my right hand and the fork in my left.
