Newsletter - ideas????

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Recently i came up with an idea. I am sending a newsletter to tell parents of important topics that they should be aware of all. I have only done two newsletter. I have mentioned topics for example: promotional requirements, textbook accountability, library book, weekly assessments, school supplies, homework. I send the newsletter every six weeks. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas that are important to mention to parents. I know my next one will mention that weekly exams will be done independently and they will no longer be orally. Parents need to encourage their child to read more at home. I just need some ideas to include in my newletter. By the way my newletter is in spanish because i am a bilingual teacher and we have spanish speaking parents. If anyone has ideas or samples i would appreciate them. you can post them or send a private message. I need ideas to incorporate into my newsletter. Thanks.

I used to send home a weekly newsletter but now have it online. I think of it just as a way to combine notes that you would normally send home to parents, plus a few helping at home tips and information about our student of the week. I also include information about curriculum and what we're studying in science and social science.

been required to do newsletters for almost 20 years now....and....the parents still don't read them!! They'll ask me questions that I've plainly answered in the newsletter. Always amazes me!

Kids' input

If I have a newsletter that seems a little thin, I always ask the kids what we should put in. Then we choose a topic and do a shared writing article about it. It's usually a special project or lesson we've been working on. I also find that it motivates parents to read it because the kids want to share the part that they helped write.

I also do a weekly newsletter and send it on Mondays. I call it "A look At the week ahead!
In it I put the difference concepts we are covering in the different subjects, homework for the week and any announcements or activities our class is involved in. I also post the info on my website. Some parents read it, and some don't.

I also include things like a website each month that would be educationally beneficial to their child, reminders about coats, homework, reading each night, upcoming dates and events, what we are studying in each of the subject areas, and a list of spelling words.

Thanks for passing this on. You have an error in though, was it proofread before being sent out? You said math until instead of math unit.

Are you the one who sent the great new letter template? Otherwise I really don't get what you are on about.
