Storage for pre-cut letters
Old 07-13-2010, 05:48 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I found the PERFECT storage device for precut bulletin board letters!! I was wandering around Dollar Tree today and spotted a pocket chart for storing CDs. It has 20 clear pockets, 2 grommets for hanging and it comes with over the door hangers. The pockets are large enough to hold a ton of the 4" letters!!! I was so excited! I bought 2 so I have pockets for all letters, numbers and 4 left over for punctuation marks. No more storing in ziplock bags, having them get tangled up with each other, having to spread the whole mess out on the table so I can find the letters I need!

Here's a picture of it. Sorry about the quality of the picture. I took it with my camera phone.

Here's a close up of the pockets. The pockets are flat with a curve cut into the top presumably so you could get the CD out.

Hanging

Clip to ScrapBook #5

I probably won't have a door to hang it over. I may use magnetic hooks and hang it on the side of my file cabinet. The picture shows 2 of them. I attached them with binder clips only for putting all of my letters away. In my classroom I would just hang them separate - one on top of the other. Then when I need to get the letters I can hang them on my white board while I get letters out. Did that make sense?

That is a great way to organize your letters! I just have mine in baggies. This is so much nicer. I just don't think I have anywhere to hang it.

AMDucky - The letters are "precut" in that they are perforated on the sheet. I have to punch them out. I get them at the Dollar Tree but I've seen them elsewhere. Here's a picture of them:

I was trying to find a way to store my letters. I am so tired of having to search through them each time I want to find the correct letter. Thanks for the idea.

Where in Dollar Tree did you find these?

I just went today and the lady looked at me like I was nuts!! I can think of a lot of things I could use these for, especially being a first year teacher and not wanting to spend a lot of money I am in Kansas and may have to go check out the other Dollar Trees in town, but if we don't have any, I was wondering if anyone would be willing to get me two or three and ship them to me? I will pay shipping and throw in some extra for being so awesome! Also, I have never seen the pre-cut letters at Dollar Tree either! I am missing out!

no ability to hang

for those of you who don't have a place to hang it, Try flat rolling it, then wrap it with a piece of velcro much like an umbrella. Then take a piece of ribbon, hem tape or rick rack and make a handle. This way you can place it on a hook, since it will be short it won't take much space and any side of cabinet, desk or corner will work. The same principle as the rolling trim holder.

Well, I was unsuccessful at finding the cd holder. Both stores I went to didn't have them. I now have my mother in law looking for them in the north part of the state. Good Luck Everyone!!!

I also had no luck finding this, but i just bought a regular cd zip case, it has 24 pockets in it so i will double up infrequently used letter. This also solves the where to hang it problem.

That's so funny! I did the same thing last year. I bought the pocket one for shoes. It has 12 pockets. But I bought those clips that stick to the wall so I hang mine inside my closet so that it is not visible. I store all kinds of stuff in mine like CD, colored pencils, etc.

I like your idea! I need some help with storing other letters, though. I save my bulletin board titles from year to year. I tried putting the letters in page protectors and placing them in a large binder. I thought it would be a great idea, but the letters all settle to the bottom of the page protector and then the binder gets so thick i can't close it! any other ideas on how to store bulletin board titles?

I was never able to find that pocket chart. I did read somewhere here on good ol' PT another idea I liked where the person used a baseball card binder with sleeves (or something like that).
