Gingerbread Exchange

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I mailed out our gingerbread people on Thursday. My first graders loved this activity! We spent all week learning about the symbols of our state and then we made enough gingerbread people to mail out to 43 other states. We have received about 12 gingerbread people so far and the kids LOVE looking at them and learning about other states. We will be hanging all the gingerbreads out in the hallway for the rest of the school to see. This experience has motivated me to do a unit on gingerbread stories and we will even bake some gingerbread cookies in class. Thanks to the organizer of this activity. The children are so motivated and excited to learn!

My book just arrived in the mail yesterday! I will be reading it next week. If you organize this project next year, please reserve a spot for me.

I absolutely love this project! My kiddos made their gingerbread people yesterday and I put them in the mail today! We have already received about 10 gingerfriends and are hanging them in the hallway as well. I also have my kids mark on the map when we have recieved a gingerfriend.

This coming week I will be reading different gingerbread stories. I have a large posterboard size gingerbread boy that runs away from our room and we go on a hunt for him throughout the school. At the end of the week he returns with treats (gingerbread cookies) for the kids. This is always one of my favorite things to do. Thank you so much heatherwagn for putting together the exchange. My kids are loving it!

We are loving our gingerbread people in Illinois too! It's a wonderful project and we look forward to receiving our envelopes each day. What a great way to learn about the U.S.!

The Maine Gingerbread Men are complete and will be mailed out Monday. Since I've lost the mail list I'll start with the Men we have received. I've emailed Heather and asked for the list again. Keep'em coming! We have a wall in our school covered with the information! Love it!
