That dress-up day on October 31st......
Is it "Hal" o-ween like the name Hal? Or "Holl" o-ween like the name Holly?

Yet another way I've discovered DH and I are different. You need not think alike to love alike.

I say Hal-o-ween. One of my least favorite school days! Halloween, day after Halloween, and April Fool's Day are all yucky in the elementary world!

I think I've said it both ways. I suppose the more correct way is with a short "a" in the first syllable, as the term is short for All Hallows' Eve. As in hallowed.

Short a, Hal. As others have said, it comes from hallow, not hollow.

Reason #12 of why I love being retired! I do not have to deal with the chaos of elementary school Halloween celebrations.
