Melanoma update

I spent the day at the University of Pennsylvania yesterday and they confirmed melanoma at a very early stage. I will go in a couple of weeks for whatís called a wide excision surgery and they will also remove some lymph nodes to test. If they come back clear then Iím done except to very close monitoring for the rest of my life. If they lymph nodes show signs of cancer then there will be more surgery and tests and immunotherapy. However the surgeon believes it was caught early enough that there is only about a 10% chance that it will have spread.

Thank you all for your kind and positive words. Not completely out of the woods but definitely not a death sentence.

So glad you got a good report!

I was like you when I had my first bad mammogram! I tell everyone that I had picked out the flowers for my funeral.

Glad to hear that it was caught early. It must be such a relief to know that it will very likely not have spread.

I'm so glad they caught it at an early stage!

What made you go to the doctor initially? Was there a suspicious growth?

Glad it appears to be an early stage, and I don't think the surgeon would say what he did if he didn't feel there was a good chance it hadn't spread. Good luck with everything.
