Fire safety week starts this week and I am seeking ANY ideas/lessons for my four year olds. I have scheduled a field trip to the fire hall, found boxes and red paint for pretend play trucks and put together a mini book.....any other ideas????

Thanks!

I always send home a "homework" note with my students that asks parents to help their child count all the smoke detectors in their homes and write the number on the note to bring back to school. It helps parents to remember to change/check the batteries and promotes fire safety discussions at home. We make smoke detectors by stapling two small paper plates together with a small jingle bell inside and add a red and green sticky dot on the front.

This is one activity I like to do with my 4 year olds. Upon completion of talking about the fire safety rules, I cut q-tips in half, either you or the kids can color the ends of q-tip with markers. This will represent the matches. Have the kids cover their eyes. Then hide the matches around the room. Once they find them, reward them with a sticker. My kids absolutely love playing this game of "Hide the Matches."

Community Helpers Activities on ebay

Hi! I found a neat community helper lesson plan auction on ebay. You may want to check that out. It is item #5638991211. I bought it from a previous auction from her and it was really helpful. There are also several others that I picked up--one for Christmas and one for Winter. The Christmas one is also good and I haven't had a chance to go through the winter one yet. Keeping my fingers crossed though!! hahha!

Good luck!
Karen

I also have purchased from the one on ebay. Very good. They are also on a website, flschoolsupply.com. Very nice person to work with and also a teacher.

Good luck!
