Irritated with the college board

So this year the college board decided to change when you sign up and pay for AP tests. Traditionally they have been paid for in late winter/early spring, as the tests are in the spring. The deadline is now. No reason given for the change.

Right when parents of seniors are paying for college applications.
Not to mention the holidays.

So I emailed with my thoughts, saying how it can be a financial burden to many to be paying $100 (ish) for each AP test and college application at the same time.

Their response - "Please note that each high school has certain policies for taking AP courses. The College Board cannot speak on behalf of the school. Please speak with your AP Coordinator for further assistance."

No - the schools don't set the deadlines. The college board does. Thanks for a complete non-response.

Your school doesn't cover the cost for students who are enrolled in AP classes?

My high school only reimbursed for those who received a 3 or higher. This was ten years ago, but...

My kids are out of school, however, their high school covered the cost of the AP exams. Interesting how things are different in different areas.

No, I had to pay for all of my oldest AP tests and now just paid for one for my freshman dd. I thought it was odd to have to pay this early!

Students who are on free/reduced lunch at my kids high school dont have to pay.

We had to pay for all 4 of my sonís AP exams. We had to do it by September 30 ó so maybe the College Board is right that the school has some discretition when to collect it.

We have to pay for ours and the school charges it up front when they register for the class. My daughter is taking 5 AP classes and my son is taking 2. Those registration fees were pretty hefty but now I don't have to think about it anymore. They are both seniors, so double the college app fees :-(
