One of the big standards for 7th grade in New Mexico is that they understand Spain's influence in the colonization of the western hemisphere. Does anyone have some historical fiction novels that would fall into this specific category?

This is the only young adult, historical fiction book that is connected to Spain I can think of. Although I am not sure you may be able to use it, it is a pretty good read about the persecution of Jews in Spain. There is a historical note about many Spanish Jews having to flee to other countries and the New World, which, admittedly I didn't know before I read it...
