What was the best concert you ever attended?

For me it is U2 at Madison Square Garden. They are amazing. Springsteen at the Meadowlands was also amazing. The worse was when my sister in law and I took my nieces (who were 12 and 7) to see Britney Spears when she first came on the scene. She was a teenager and she was clearly lip syncing so that it would not interfere with her pole dancing.

What was your best concert?

Garth Brooks. While I liked his recent tour, I loved his tour twenty years ago. There wasn't a bad seat in the house!

Ancient Amiga and not-yet-DH saw/heard an amazing show: Joe Cocker with Mad Dogs and Englishmen (Leon Russell) at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. In my memory it was a musical extravaganza.

So many others, but I'll control myself.

Billy Joel and Elton John - Dueling Pianos. It was also one of the longest concerts I have ever been to. They each did a long set of their own songs and another set of songs together. Best concert ever!

Bob Dylan and the Band in 1974...

Bruce Springsteen in 1975....

(I may be old, but I got to see all the good bands!)

There were many others.

Most recent good concert was Jimmy Cliff. It was a couple of years ago. He has amazing energy for a guy even older than me.

Bonnie Raitt, around 1982, I think. She had Richard Thompson and Bruce Hornsby with her. Swoon! I've seen her about 13 times, but I think that was her best show.

Weird Al. Yes, Weird Al. I VERY reluctantly bought tickets for DH and I for his birthday. I detest the guy. Then I saw what a BLAST he has performing and what a great crowd it was. Still can't stand more than a song or two in a row, but he impressed me beyond belief as a performer.

A triple billing of Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Chuck Berry. They played REALLY late and closed out the show with those of us who stayed dancing up on stage with them. Chuck Berry was 72 at the time and was duck walking, strumming, and singing his heart out!

The best concert I ever went to was the Eagles a few years ago. They sounded great. My SO is still getting points for taking me to that one. He barely knew who they were. Not his era. He is now a convert.

Robert Palmer at the NYS state fair 1988 for sentimental reasons but he also put on a great show!

DH says Peter Murphy at a local theater '95 Cascade was the best! Unique for Peter Murphy a club setting '08.

Radiohead was an overall bad experience. '98 in Toronto was great weather but bad crowd for the concert. Someone was high/drunk/everything right in front of us!

REM '95 Monster tour and Psychedelic Furs '01 before DS (15)....very memorable!

The worst was Vanilla Ice - ugh.

Best ever- Sting with Annie Lenox opening for him. Breathtaking!

Very, very close runner up: U2

And Dave Matthews anywhere, any time. I have been to dozens of his concerts and haven't ever had a bad experience. My fave was Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds at Waite Chaoel on the campus of Wake-Forest University. He started playing, the crowd stood and started to cheer. He stopped and said," it's not that kind of concert. Sit, relax and enjoy" so we did!

Also enjoyed Kelly Clarkson with Pentatonix.

I have to say Jimmy Buffet. The whole day was great. Everyone was so laid back. We spent the entire day before the concert just being with friends.

I saw Genesis at the L.A. forum on their Mama Tour. Most people would think our seats stunk but we were sitting looking down on Chester Thompson (the other drummer) and it was epic.

Like several PTers already mentioned, Elton John and Billy Joel together in concert are pretty hard to beat.

I am also a huge Rod Stewart fan and have seen him 5 or 6 times in concert. I love his shows and energy.

I saw Luke Bryan in concert when he was an up-and-comer, and could tell he was going to be a star.

Miranda Lambert is a great singer/storyteller with her music. I loved how passionate she was about her music.

My first concert - Janis Joplin, the night she was arrested at Curtis Hixon in Tampa. I was way too young to be there, but it was amazing, what a night.
Any of the Eric Clapton concerts I've been to.
Any Jimmy Buffett concert.
Moody Blues... amazing.

Ella Fitzgerald in about 1985. She was about 70 at the time. She. Was. Fabulous. The whole evening was amazing. Her warm-up acts were Joe Pass who did a guitar set, Oscar Peterson who did a piano set and then Joe Pass and Oscar Peterson played together. OMG! The curtain went down and Ella came out singing "you must remember this, a kiss is just a kiss..." The crowd went wild and then we stopped and listened to her amazing voice.

A close second was Paul Simon in about 1991. He was wonderful--so warm and almost intimate even though there were several thousand people in the audience.

I saw Santana in the fall of '79 and the music just took you away.
Jethro Tull was mesmerizing.
Jackyl was a hoot - naked breasts popped out as soon as the music started
But I love Tom Petty concerts! Been to two, and the energy was amazing, the crowd sang along to every song, but the encores were the greatest. Never have I seen G-L-O-R-I-A played so well!
Also loved Clapton, Kansas, the Eagles.....we were concert junkies in the day.

I'm going to say the N'Sync concert I went to when I was 12. Of course I've seen much better shows since then, but I don't think anything could compare to the level of excitement my best friend and I had about going to this concert. Not only was it our first concert, but we were totally obsessed with them at the time. No matter how excited you are about a band as an adult, I don't think anything can compare to the level of obsession a 12 year old feels! It felt like a dream come true.

I always love a Jethro Tull concert. The first one I went to was in college and we were "well prepared" for it . We were several seats from the front and when Ian Anderson came on stage and started with "Really don't mind if you sit this one out....." We just all freaked out. My friend and I debated on the ride back which one of us we were sure he was looking at

Bob Dylan was good as was The Grateful Dead. I enjoyed Neil Young, too.

It's a tie between...

Garth Brooks - We saw him at the Wynn in Las Vegas, which was amazing. Also saw him on his current tour. Equally amazing.

and

Prince - Can't remember the name of the tour, but we saw him twice. I'd liked his music but wasn't a huge fan until I saw him play live. Wish I would have made it to one more of his concerts!

It was at a country music festival several years ago. Taylor Swift was the headliner (I think it was her first big tour) and she was good, but the rest of the lineup was even more enjoyable. Dean Brody was just starting out and I really enjoyed him. I saw him a few years later and that was a great concert as well.

Great Big Sea was another favourite. I really haven't been to very many concerts. Big acts just don't come to this part of the world very often!

By far, my favorite concert was the Elton John/Billy Joel "Face to Face" tour. Incredible! I danced the evening away. My worst concert experience had to be Hank Williams, Jr. I wasn't necessarily even a fan but went with some friends who had an extra ticket. He slurred his words, took an intermission and never returned. The next night, he completely canceled his show.

I am a self admitted Concert Junkie, so this is hard...however:
*Elton John (first concert ever, and I was hooked on live music!)
*Eagles (my "make the world right" band)
*Maroon Five (I am SLIGHTLY obsessed)
*Def Leppard (could watch them every night live)
*Bon Jovi His a cappella Hallelujah was mesmerising!
*Steven Tyler (I want to be him, when I grow up-)

I can not say that I have ever been to a bad concert- I LOVE live music! Just please don't ask me to sit down...

The best concert I ever saw would have to be Michael Jackson in the 80's. Prince - Purple Rain tour, and Diana Ross ( with about 6 wardrobe changes).

I've seen The Eagles three times and all three shows were phenomenal! My heart is still broken that Glenn is gone.

I also saw Harry Connick Jr. probably 25 years ago at an outdoor music festival here in South Florida. It was a gorgeous day, and everyone was in lawn chairs - it was such a great time!
