What do you include in the letter to your new students?

At my school letters get sent home in August to each student telling them who their new teacher is. Our letters are due on Friday and I have no idea where to start! I'm moving from 3rd to 1st, so I definitely can't use the same letter as I have in the past.

Thanks!

I usually write two letters, one to the students and one to their parents. In the one to the students I keep it really simple. I use a lot of sight words and just tell them that I am very happy they will be in my class. The reasoning is that hopefully some of them will be reading it themselves, or at least be able to read some of the words in it. Then in the letter to the parents I give them a brief background and a couple things to expect the first few days of school and a supply list. Hope that helps!
