My boys were due home from Philmont Scout Ranch sometime Sunday afternoon.

At 2:25 am, my husband crawled into bed with me, curled around me, and kissed the top of my head. I screamed bloody murder, hit him, and ran away, still screaming.

I didn't hear them come into the house, nothing, until he got into bed with me. It took so long for my heart rate to settle down!

It's monsoon season in the SW and a big old storm was coming into base camp, so they decided they would rather drive through the night than have to pack up wet gear this morning. He did text to warn me, but it was after I had gone to bed.

What a welcome home!

Something similar happened to me a few years ago. I was asleep and woke up to the garage door opening. DH was not expected to be home until the following night. I called him freaking out. He walks in, on the phone with me, laughing

Years ago, random knocks on windows during the night were dismissed as "just a dream."

Then the police department sent out information on the news that they were looking for a man frequenting various neighborhoods knocking on bedroom windows during the night, then exposing himself/running away when people awoke and looked out the window.

Nope it wasn't "just a dream."

You must be a sound sleeper or your kids and DH not your normal loud rowdy men...okay they must have been exhausted. One question, did he climb into bed with his camp crud still on him? I always smelled like OFF repellent, wood smoke, and dirt after a week of scout camp.

They showered at base camp before coming home and had left a change of clothes in the car. Two weeks of back country backpacking gets super funky--says the lady currently washing their absolutely god awful wool socks!

I can't think the last time I was that scared!
