Home study tomorrow!!

Adoption update: we have our first in home visit of our home study tomorrow. For those that donít know ( since I had no clue when I began this process) the home study process consists of multiple meetings with the social worker some in your home some at their office as well as compiling MOUNTAINS of paperwork and documentation.

We had one meeting at our agency, have been diligently working on our paperwork, and have our first in home visit trmw. DH and I spent the entire day today working on a 23 item todo list ( finished 20 items) of stuff around our house. Cleaning, decluttering, etc etc. the rational part of my brain knows that we wonít fail our home study bc I have some papers laying around on the counter or donít have curtains hung in one room but the crazy part couldnít let it go. Needless to say my house has never looked this good.

Iím feeling good about the process so far and just really excited to keep moving forward. I talked on the phone for over an hour to someone my mom put me in contact w who has adopted two kiddos and had a similar situation to mine. It was sooo incredibly helpful.

Think good thoughts for us tomorrow!!!

Think about the fact that once you have the baby the house may be a mess and the agency will still have to come by.

If it’s a private adoption only once or twice in my state after you take baby home.

For foster care/public adoption it’s many many visits.

I was told looking too perfect or having the house too perfect is a red flag. It makes you not look “real”. Horse and pony show.

I think you are going to do absolutely great! Praying for you. Keep us posted.

When my SIL and BIL had their first home visit 30-some years ago, SIL met her at the door and asked if she wanted to see the inside of the oven first, or her closets, . The woman declined both, and within a year they had a 10 week old baby girl!

You'll be fine!

I have had 8 home study visits (plus tons of post-placement visits), and I still get nervous! I still clean like a madwoman. You'll be great. Sending you wishes, prayers, and fresh flowers!

Okay. All went well. I 100% went overboard in my prep ( which I knew but couldnít help it). We are almost halfway through the home study and will be home study approved by mid sept barring any unforeseen issues. 😀😀😀
