Any recommendations for Horror movies?

LOVE supernatural horror and horror based on folktales.
Just saw Ghost Stories, The Intruders, and The Hallows on dvd.
Enjoyed them all.

NO slashing/ gore.

Any recommendations for Horror books/ short stories?
I like a quick scare.
Just read Horrors!:365 Scary Stories.
Each story was only 1-2 pages long. Some stories were only 1/2 page.
All spectacularly terrifying.
Stephen King's books are awesome, but too long to wait for the scares.

This is my guilty pleasure in the summertime.

I balance it out by watching Rom Coms and Hallmark movies and reading Chicken Soup for the Soul.

Maybe Shirley Jackson? There are some great anthologies of her short stories.
I could never read her full length books somehow, just find them way too hard to follow. But she was a genius at writing well plotted and creepy stories!

The Orphanage

The Wicker Man

The Lady in White

The Mist

Insidious

The Ring

YellowBrickRoad

The Village

The Others

Check and/or Google these before watching though— to make sure they are the kind of thing you’re looking for!

Not a movie but I enjoyed The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix. Itís not gory at all. Itís based on the Shirley Jackson book.

I will say.... There are some triggering scenes if somebody struggles with any mental health issues though.
