I like to catch up with professional texts on teaching reading. What texts would you recommend?

I read the book whisperer last year and really enjoyed it. So far this year, I have read notice and note:strategies for close reading and conferring with readers.

Snapshots

I am reading Snapshots by Linda Hoyt.

There is a pretty good review on the link above, but the book is listed on Amazon for $4.99 and up for new. This book is all about literacy minilessons, giving lots of strategies.

I also like a textbook called Literacy for the 21st Century: A Balanced Approach by Gail E. Tompkins. It is easy to read and deals with early literacy and moves up. Strategies are given for intervention as well as whole class.

I read The Book Whisperer last summer and implemented it for my 6th graders this year with some slight revision. Like an earlier poster said, it is a game changer!
