I am new to teaching fourth grade-spent the last four years teaching fifth. I struggle has a writing teacher to begin with and I have looked at my writing curriculum and it is very heavy on teaching the writing process. I want to make sure that I do this well. How do you teach the writing process with your students? Thank you for the help.

Model, model and model some more. Write in front of the class. Show them with your document camera the process while you write . Write with the class as a whole or in small groups and follow the process.

Have posters displayed in your classroom about the process.

Teach the vocabulary of the process. Use the terms over and over in your lessons and require students to use the vocabulary as well so the "own" the process.

Display examples of each step of the process in your classroom as well.

Show them work by published authors that shows the writing process. I am pretty sure there is one by Dr. Seuss. I do not remember the title. I thick it is one he started before he died and a couple of other authors completed it for him. Maybe it is Diffendoofer Day.

I would have them read about the process is well if you can find that in your LA resources.

Good luck!

This Azing TPT resource has everything you'll need. Depending on your standards there may be 1 or 2 you won't need.

You are in a unique position. Since you have taught 5th grade, you know where they are in the beginning of the school year that will be the 4th graders ending point. Think about what skills you wished they had more practice....punctuation, transitions, etc. You have the advantage.
