Clip to ScrapBook #1

This is my 4th year in first grade and we are just now starting the D5. I am reading the books and taking notes but starting to get overwhelmed. Any ideas on how to implement this and not go crazy with it? I think it's a fabulous idea but I'm not sure exactly how to begin.

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Vicki

I'm new to 4th too but not D5. I always start with read to self because until students can do that successfully, you can't see your small groups. I always start off the year conferring with each students to start understanding them as readers. I do my word work whole group and use month by month phonics (there is a fourth grade edition). While the students are reading I challenge them to find interesting words. My biggest piece of advice is don't rush it-take your time and model what you want students to do.

Use the search thread in this topic room. You will find a wealth of information. Also, many teachers blog about the Daily 5 at Bloglovin.
